AHA Governing Committee Monthly Meeting Summary: September 2021
Here is a summary of the September meeting of your American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee (GC). Note that there was no August meeting.
- Ryan Farrell announced that the AHA is beginning a search for a new AHA director that will chosen in 2022. The new director will focus on membership development, external strategic partnerships, and less on staff and budget management. This will allow the new director to be a public face for the AHA and be in it for the long haul. Although the Governing Committee can make suggestions for potential candidates, it will not be involved in the interview process for director candidates as this task will will be conducted by the Brewers Association.
- AHA staff will be reorganized to work alongside BA counterparts for shared work on things like the Homebrew Con seminar selection process.
- The AHA is budgeting more money to increase content on the website, in Zymurgy, and DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) partnerships and support.
- An update was given on this year’s election cycle. There will be three seats opening in this year’s elections. These seats are currently occupied by Denny Conn, who is termed out; Donna Reuter; and Carvin Wilson. The application/nomination process will go live in mid-October.
- The AHA is undertaking a project to improve content and increase traffic on the website. It is also looking for authors for future Zymurgy articles. Anyone with ideas or interest in writing articles should contact Duncan Bryant.
- The Governing Committee and the AHA are urged to step up promoting Homebrew Con 2022 in Pittsburgh. It was also suggested that seminar attendees at Homebrew Con 2022 could use the Slido app to submit questions to the speakers and to rate questions in terms of importance for the speakers to answer either during the seminar or online afterward.
